2019-10-12 Newport to Fishguard and back

The weather was not looking too good for this weekend and many people dropped out in the week prior, leaving just Fiona (the organiser), Lynette and me making it to Fishguard, Pembrokeshire. We paddled from Newport to Fishguard, around Dinas Island, along some spectacular coast line, stopped for lunch in Lower Town and paddled back again. I forgot to set my GPS going until we were around Dinas Island, but looking at my log it looks like we did about 14 nm. The tide wasn't really noticeable and the winds were nowhere near as strong as they had been forecast. In fact the sun even popped through the clouds every now and again. The geology along the cliffs is quite amazing. I'd thoroughly recommend this trip and would be more than happy to do it again.

Thanks to Fiona and Lynette for a great day.

I know this bit of coast quite well having lived in Newquay, Ceredigion. It is where I got into sea kayaking. The coast from Newquay all the way South is really good and with a resident population of dolphins in Cardigan Bay what’s not to love?
