New Quay

Wondering around the quaint Welsh port of New Quay (Ceinewydd)  my wife spotted a sign advertising two hour boat trips. "Why don't I go on a boat trip whilst you go for a paddle" she said! Well I am not going to say no to that! An hour or so later I was setting off from the harbour, whilst my wife was about to board her trip, with a plan to head down to the rocky little beach at Cwmtydu.

Almost immediately on leaving the harbour I ran straight into a pod of dolphins!

Leaving the Dolphins behind I rock hopped my way down the coast. I have to say I was very impressed with the geology, with lots of strata being push up into all kinds of angles. If the dolphins weren't enough, this was something I really wasn't expecting.

At Cwmtydu I did a quick reccie in case there was a chance of using the car park for an overnight stop in the van. A very large sign saying no overnight parking made the situation quite clear. Oh well back to my kayak.

I had still not seen my wife's boat pass by at this point. It turned out that having got everyone on board at New Quay, the captain announced that on their return, with the tide going out, they would need to get ashore by shuttling in a dingy. Consequently all the buggies and parents with young kids needed to disembark prior to leaving.

I was soon back with the Dolphins who seemed to avoid the pleasure engine'd craft. As I was something of a novelty they made several passes by me quite closely.

I had now seen my wife's boat head out, so moving away from the Dolphins I did a little fishing and almost instantly pulled out a good sized mackerel for tea.
